Large crowd packs the gym for SCS Food and Fun Night

Sully Christian School’s largest annual fundraiser, Food and Fun Night, drew a large crowd Saturday evening, Jan. 30. Over 400 people packed the school’s gym for a hot meal, family fun and entertainment, and the chance to bring home great prizes through live and silent auctions. The fundraiser was a huge success with over $30,000 raised in one evening. “On behalf of Sully Christian School and the Food and Fun Night Committee, the Fundraising Committee would like to extend a sincere thank you to everyone in the Sully community and surrounding towns for joining us for a great evening of fun, food, and fellowship,” said Angela Veenstra.

It took many hours of planning and many hands pitching in to make Food & Fun Night a success. For the meal, supporters contributed by donating many food items and money, while SCS parents did the actual serving of the meal to 410 people. No one left hungry as the plates filled quickly with beef-burgers, hot dogs, potato salad, baked beans, potato chips, pie, and desserts with ice cream.

Other volunteers ran the carnival games for kids. And the silent and live auctions wouldn’t have been possible without the numerous donations made. Some of the bigger auction items this year were the all-inclusive Mexico vacation that went for $4,300; the dinner hosted by Jeff and Sue Pastoor sold for $1,000; EWI’s donation of $1,000 toward any service; and a quilt made by Jan Pothoven that brought in $400. The SCS teachers’ do-nations added up to $1,550 and the classroom donations totalled $1,915.
