A perfect storm of relentless rain, timing issues, and races that needed to be ran again made for one of the more interesting state-qualifying track and field meets in recent history, but the inclement elements did nothing to deter the efforts or focus put forth by Lynnville-Sully and Pella Christian athletes on Thursday, May 9, at BGM and Roland-Story. The athletes gave it all they had, despite the less-than-ideal conditions, which led to 13 Lynnville-Sully athletes and two area Pella Christian student-athletes punching their tickets to the Iowa High School Track and Field Championships at Drake Stadium in Des Moines May 16-18.
The Hawks will send 13 athletes to complete in six events. The Hawk girls will be represented at State by sophomore Tatum Huyser in the 200m dash and high jump; the 4x800 quartet of freshmen Emma Parkinson and Peyton Sharp, junior Olivia Norrish, and sophomore Kate Harthoorn; seniors Carsyn McFarland and Morgan Jones, freshman Brilynn Tice, and Huyser in the 4x200; and McFarland, sophomore Morgan Hay, Jones, and Huyser in the 4x100.
The L-S boys qualified their 4x100 team consisting of senior Corder Noun Harder and sophomores Jaiden Richards, Dawson James, and Jack Bowlin.
Pella Christian’s Trevor Veenstra and Bailey Vos will collectively compete in five events for the Eagles.
