Diamond Trail Golf Club’s Par 3 Partee draws patriotic crowd to ‘one of Iowa’s best-kept secrets’

Shawn Huyser, Diamond Trail Golf Club’s board president, and Kyle Van Rees, past board president, dressed the patriotic part at the Par 3 Partee Tournament in Lynnville on Sunday, July 2. Van Rees donned the stars and stripes from head to toe!

Less than a week after receiving statewide coverage as a feature on WOI-TV Local 5’s June 27 evening news broadcasts, the Diamond Trail Golf Club hosted it’s 10th Annual Par 3 Partee best-shot, 18-hole tourney on Sunday, July 2. The popular tourney drew 27 teams with many golfers giving a nod to the Fourth of July by dressing in red, white, and blue. Danny Zegers and Tyler Olson claimed the honors of being the overall winners of this year’s Par 3 Partee. Every hole featured a pin prize or event.

Nearly a week prior to the tourney, the DTGC received high praise and was in the spotlight when WOI 5’s Jake Brend visited and called the course in Lynnville one of “Iowa’s best-kept secrets.” The segment, which aired June 27, complimented the DTGC’s com-mitted volunteers who have been instrumental in the success of the course since its inception. Brend called the course a “diamond in the rough” and explained how it was transformed from a cow pasture in 1998 to the challenging nine-hole course it is today, thanks to numerous community volunteers, board members, and avid golfers who work together to maintain one of the best-kept secrets Iowa has to offer.

Longtime DTGC volunteers Nick Beyer and Brad Zegers served as this year's Par 3 ParTee's golf pro and organizer.

10th Annual Par 3 Partee held in Lynnville

The 10th Annual Par 3 Partee was held Sunday afternoon, July 2, at Diamond Trail Golf Course in Lynnville. Along with opening fireworks to kick off the 4th of July, 54 golfers set out for an afternoon of friendly competition highlighted with lots of laughter, socializing, and reconnecting with family and friends while enjoying the Par 3 Partee course setup.

“This event has always been one of the most popular at the DTGC and would not be possible without all of the volunteers’ and sponsors’ support,” said Brad Zegers, organizer of the event.

This year’s on course event sponsors included: Tim Zylstra/Zylstra Express, Val Courter/Val’s Fine Dining, Mike Terpstra/Terpstra Plumbing, Heating, Electrical, Kent and Jo Baarda, Harlan Van Wyhe/Sully Plumbing and Heating, Chase Tanke/Tanke Rentals, Nick Beyer/Beyer Rentals, and Brad Zegers/BZ Auto Co.

Zegers continued, “This year’s volunteers were once again great! Year after year, these folks step up and make this event run smoothly.” The volunteer list this year includes: Michele Zegers, Shawn Huyser, Megan Van Zante, Pam Vander Beek, Nick Beyer, Trudy Tice, Val Courter, Tina Harter, and Baker Zegers. “Thank you to all of you!” Zegers said.

One of the favorite events at the Par 3 Partee has always been the “Beat the Pro” competition. In this event, one of our local golfers volunteers to hit tee shots for the competitors, if they chose to participate. When or if their shot results in a “closer to the pin” shot than the “pro’s” tee shot, that team would then be rewarded with the returns.

This year’s “pro” for the day was Nick Beyer. “Being able to celebrate both the upcoming 4th of July holiday and the 10th anniversary of the Par 3 Partee was memorable. It made this year’s tourney most memorable to have one of our best local Diamond Trail golfers finally ‘take the hill!!’ Thanks for the great job, Nick Beyer!” Zegers concluded.
