Wilford Laverman, 86

Wilford Laverman, 86, of Sully died Sunday, Mar. 16, 2014, at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, Mar. 20, at Sully Christian Reformed Church. Interment will be in Sully Cemetery. Memorials have been designated for The Gideons and Sully Christian School.

Wilford Roy Laverman was born Jan. 9, 1928, to John and Kate (Fopma) Laverman. He attended a country school near his home and graduated from the eighth grade.

On Aug. 16, 1950, Wilford was united in marriage with Henrietta Van Rees at the Sully Christian Reformed Church. They were blessed with five children.

Wilford served his country with the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. Wilford and Henrietta farmed for many years prior to moving to Sully. He then worked part-time at Precision Pulley and Idler in Pella.

Wilford was a faithful member of the Sully Christian Reformed Church where he was privileged to serve as both elder and deacon. He was also involved with The Gideons and was on boards of various organizations including Sully Christian School, Sully Co-op, and the Sully Cemetery. He also enjoyed volunteering for several projects, one of them being PET in Leighton.

Wilford was a faithful husband, a loving and caring family man, steadfast, and a servant of the Lord.

Those left to cherish his memory are: his wife, Henrietta of Sully; his five children: Gayle (Ervin) Fopma of Sully, Wes (Cindy) Laverman of Sully, Julie (Lowell) Vander Molen of Pella; Dennis (Linda) Laverman of Pella, and Karla Wynja of Pella; 12 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; his brother, Lester (Marcella) Laverman of Sully; and his in-laws: Joan Verhey, Joyce and Charles Brand, and Dave and Bonnie Van Rees.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters and their husbands, Betty and Bernie Nikkel and Charlene and Marion Vander Hart; his grandson, Jeremy Laverman; parents-in-law, Lawrence and Wilma Van Rees; and siblings-in-law, Bernie and Lenora Nikkel and Ben Verhey.
