Tress Deur, 91

Thressa “Tress” Deur went to her heavenly home on Friday morning, May 13, 2022, at The Cottages in Pella. She attained the age of 91 years, 8 months, and 18 days. Funeral service was at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, May 18, at Peoria Christian Reformed Church. Interment was in Peoria Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be designated for the Peoria Christian Grade School or Peoria Christian Reformed Church.

Thressa Faye Deur was born Aug. 25, 1930, to Gysbert and Jacoba (Stursma) Swank in Mahaska County. Nov. 24, 1950, she was united in marriage with Junior H. Deur at the First Christian Reformed Church in Pella. To this union five children were born: Randall Jay, Cynthia Kay, Vonda Rae, Michelle Faye, and Stuart Ray. Junior and Thressa continued living in Peoria, at the same location where they later built a new home.

After raising the family, Tress took the position as the custodian of Peoria Christian Grade School. She, with help from Junior “Jupe,” took great pride in keeping both the old school and the new school “Dutch clean.” Tress also drove one of the Peoria Christian School buses.

Jupe and Tress moved to Pella in 1997. Shortly after moving to Pella, Tress started her position with the Laundry Team at Pella Regional Health Center. She made many good friends during her 19-year employment. She retired at the age of 86.

Thressa moved into Fair Haven East in December 2019. While there, she added to her circle of friends and enjoyed the many activities put on by the caring staff.

Those left to cherish her memory are 18 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and her five children: Randy (Bonnie) Deur of Waverly, Cindy (Don) Gosselink of Pella, Vonda (John) Agan of Oskaloosa; Shelley (Steve) Johnson of Lago Vista, TX, and Stuart Deur and Sharilyn Smith of Pella. Of her original family, she leaves two sisters and two brothers: Millie Lanser of Grand Rapids, MI, Flora Kooistra of Pella, Ron (Nancy) Swank of Sully, and Art Swank of Olathe, KS.

She was preceded in death by her husband Junior; her parents; and three of her sisters: Leona (Lester) Van Wyk, Harriet (James) Jonker, and Joann (Leo) Nikkel.
