Ruth Ozinga, 93, of Pella, passed away May 11, 2023. Funeral service was at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, May 17, at Peoria Christian Reformed Church. Memorial contributions are preferred for Peoria Christian School.
Ruth Pothoven was born Mar. 26, 1930, near Peoria. She was the fifth of six children born to John and Golda (Tysseling) Pothoven. Ruth received her formal education at Peoria Christian School. Feb. 23, 1949, at the home of her parents, she was united in marriage with Arnold Ozinga. To this union five children were born: Dale Edwin, Roger Lee who died in infancy, Kathleen Joy, Marla Jean, and Leanne Rae. Following their marriage, Arnold and Ruth began farming the farm of his parents William and Cornelia (Nieuwsma) Ozinga northwest of Peoria. While caring for God’s creation on the farm, Ruth faithfully and loving fulfilled her responsibilities as a devoted homemaker. Among those responsibilities, she found time and made time for quilting and generously shared those items with her family members who cherish them. Ruth and Arnold moved into Pella in 2008 where they were living when he passed away Apr. 3, 2011, at the age of 85 years. They were privileged to share 62 years of married life together, and Ruth continued to reside in their duplex until the time of her death May 11 at Pella Regional Health Center.
During her lifetime, she experienced the death of her infant son Roger Lee in 1953; her daughter Marla on Sept. 27, 2015, at the age of 58 years; and her son Dale on Feb. 22, 2023, at the age of 72 years.
Ruth was very fond of her family: Kathy (Irvin) Rozenboom of Altoona, Leanne (John) Hogan of Pella, and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Of her original family, Ruth leaves her brother-in-law William Vander Meyden and a sister-in-law Geraldine Ozinga, both of Oskaloosa.
She was preceded in death by her husband Arnold; three children Roger, Marla, and Dale; her parents; the following siblings and their spouses: Freda Fern and Arthur Bokhoven, Lester and Johanna Pothoven, Harold and Stella Pothoven, Martha Faye Vander Meyden; her parents-in-law William and Cornelia Ozinga; and the following brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Jacob and Edna Ozinga, Harold and Ila Ozinga, Melvin Ozinga, and Anna Mae and Francis De Jong.
Ruth remained a faithful, loyal member of Peoria Christian Reformed Church where she made profession of her faith.
