Roger Tice, 85

Roger Tice, 85, of Montezuma passed away peace-fully Thursday morning, Nov. 24, 2016, at Montezuma Specialty Care. Funeral services were held Monday, Nov. 28, at Lynnville Friends Church with Pastor Jamie Bogaard officiating. Burial was in the Woodland Cemetery in Lynnville. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Lynnville Friends Church.

Roger Loren Tice, the eldest son of Vernon and Pauline (Stephens) Tice, was born Dec. 6, 1930, in Cedar. He graduated from Searsboro High School in 1948. Aug. 23, 1949, Roger was united in marriage to his best friend, Phyllis Plate, in Rock Island, IL. To this union, two children were born, Rebecca and Garold. In 1954, Roger and Phyllis purchased a feed store in Lynnville, renaming it Tice Feed and Grain. Then in 1971, they purchased the Montezuma Feed and Grain. Roger dealt with the day-to-day operations traveling every day to both stores. In 1989, they sold the Lynnville store, and Roger retired in 1991 when he sold the Montezuma store. Roger was an avid Iowa Hawkeyes and Chicago Cubs fan. He enjoyed playing golf, pheasant or duck hunting, traveling, and playing fastpitch softball. He was a wonderful father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and great-great-grandfather. He enjoyed spending time with his family and attended every sporting event, school activity, or any other event they were in. Roger had a passion for horses. He raised several award-winning horses and racing horses, winning several races at the track. Roger was a member of the Montezuma Country Club where Roger and Phyllis won the husband/wife club champion in 1977 and 1985. He was also a member of Lynnville Friends Church, the Lions Club, and Board of Directors of the Iowa Feed and Grain.

He is survived by his children, Rebecca (Greg) Northcutt of Montezuma and Garold "Gary" Tice of Lynnville; six grandchildren, DeAnna Garber (Brad Mullen), Melissa (Matt) Ogan, Heather (Travis) Voshell, Chris (Deanne) Tice, Curtis Tice, and Cory (Shawna) Tice; 11 great-grandchildren, Tyler, Hadley, Makayla, Carter, Kinsley, Brilynn, Trenton, Garrett, Halley, Jessica, and Sloane; four great-great-grandchildren, Jordann, Tyson, Kynsley, and Bryley; four siblings, Ray (Gaynelle) Tice of Perry, Harriet (Ben) Fisk of Lynnville, Janet (Lester) Maudlin of Norwalk, and Dave (Penny) Tice of Belmont, NC; two sisters-in-law, Shirley Tice of Kellerton and Roberta Tice of Marshalltown; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.

Roger was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Phyllis; two brothers, Jerry and Ronald; and an infant brother, Larry.
