Roger Conn, 77

John Roger Conn, 77, of Sully, died on Saturday, Jan. 18, 2020, at Newton Health Care Center. The family will greet friends from noon-2 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 24, at the Lynnville Friends Church FCC Building in Lynnville. Memorials to the Sully Lions Club may be left at the church during the visitation or at Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory, Newton.

Roger, the son of John and Irene (Renaud) Conn, was born Mar. 26, 1942, in Greencastle, IN. He grew up in Greencastle and began his career in sanitation work there. In 1972, Roger moved to Sully with his parents. He worked for many years for Midwest Sanitation and also for Fred Schmidt at Schmidt Lumber and with his farming operation.  Roger and his father, John, also enjoyed making and selling birdhouses.

Roger was always very active in the community and was a member of the Sully Lions Club and the Lynnville Friends Church, where he ushered and served as the Sunday School attendant. He had many hobbies and interests including gospel and country music, fishing, hunting, bow hunting, and going to rodeos and the Old Threshers Reunion. For many years, Roger was a regular attendee at the Indianapolis 500 and after that enjoyed watching it every year.  Roger never had a job or task he wouldn’t tackle.  He was a caring, loving person that never turned anyone away that needed help.

Roger is survived by his nephews, Dennis (Gail) Terlouw of Newton and Doug (Lori) Terlouw of Sully; great-nieces and nephews, Nicole, Naomi, Noah, Russell, Emily, Mariah, and Kyle; and his cousins, Gordon Lewis of Lynnville, Tom Link of Omaha, and Kermit Link of Washington.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Donna Terlouw; and two nephews, Daryl and David Terlouw.

The family would like to thank the Sully community for always looking out for Roger through the years.
