Roberta Hoopes, 83

Roberta Hoopes, 83, of Lindenhurst, IL, passed away Friday afternoon, Dec. 4, 2020, at the Village of Victory Lakes in Lindenhurst, IL. Funeral services were 11 a.m. Monday, Dec. 14, at Sully Community Church. Burial was held in the Friends Cemetery in Lynnville.

Roberta Lorraine Hoopes, the daughter of Glenwood and Ruth Lucille Stanley, was born Aug. 5, 1937, in Searsboro. She graduated from Lamont High School and then received her nursing degree from Allen Nursing School in Waterloo. She was united in marriage to Joseph Hoopes Sr. on Nov. 21, 1965. They lived in the Chicago area, and Roberta worked for several area hospitals as a Registered Nurse. She worked several years before having children. Roberta was then a homemaker until her children were in high school, and she then went back to work at the hospitals again. Roberta was very talented; she loved to play the piano and sing in the church choir. Following their retirement in 1996, Roberta and Joseph moved back to Iowa and lived on the Stanley family farm near Searsboro, and she loved to travel. She was a member of Sully Community Church and enjoyed attending Bible study. In 2016, Roberta and Joseph moved back to the Chicago area to be closer to family. She was also a member of the North Suburban Evangelical Church in Chicago.

Her memory is honored by her son, Joseph Charles Hoopes of Antioch, IL; three daughters, Ann-Marie Lynne Condo of Antioch, IL, Dana Ann Dale of Macon, GA, and Tracy Doherty of Macon, GA; seven grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; a sister, Mary Lynne Watson of Waterloo; and many other relatives and friends.

Roberta was preceded in death by her husband Joseph in 2018; parents; a daughter Nancy Michele Edwards; two sisters Emma Louise Ortberg and Bertha Lea Alaniz; and a brother Glenwood Lewis Stanley.
