Graveside service for Robert D. Vos, 81, of Sully, was held Monday, Oct. 12, 2020, and livestream is available on Van Dyk-Duven Funeral Home’s Facebook page for people to view at their convenience. Oct. 8, Bob died at Pella Regional Medical Center due to complications from the COVID-19 virus. In lieu of flowers, Robert’s family prefers memorial contributions to Worldwide Mobility (PET) or Sully Christian Grade School.

Robert Donald Vos was born May 4, 1939, the son of Joe C. and Elizabeth (Moes) Vos. He attended Forest Home Country School, Sully Christian School, and completed his formal education at Sully High School. Jan. 27, 1959, he was united in marriage to Pearl Jean Branderhorst. They were blessed with three children: Barbara Jean, Cynthia Sue, and Richard Duane.

Once married, Bob and Pearl first lived south of Sully. Bob worked for Schmidt Lumber and farmed. Later, they moved north of Sully where he continued to farm and milk cows. The next move was five miles north of Sully onto the Rayburn Farm where they lived and farmed for 42 years. Bob developed a hobby for carpentry and used this skill to work alongside his brother Ray on various carpentry jobs. In 2013, Bob and Pearl made their final move from the farm into their current home in town. He was a lifetime member of Sully Christian Reformed Church where he made profession of faith in 1959. Throughout his life, he served the Young Peoples Society, taught Sunday school, volunteered 28 years for CRWRC (World Renew) including many disaster relief trips. The last few years, he found a special joy in volunteering weekly for World Wide Mobility (PET). He loved family gatherings and attending his grandchildren's sporting events. Bob's family will remember him for his love of faith, family, and farming.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 61 years, Pearl; three children and their spouses: Barb (Doug) Vande Voort of New Sharon, Cyndi (Roger) Fynaardt of Oskaloosa, and Rick (Kim) Vos of Lynnville; eight grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

He leaves behind four brothers and spouses: Clifford (Mildred) Vos of Reasnor, Creston (Evelyn) Vos of Ankeny, Gene (Linda) Vos of Pella, and Norman (Connie) Vos of Altoona. From Pearl's family, he leaves: Marilyn Louwsma of Oskaloosa, Joan Vos of Sully, Calvin (Ruth) Branderhorst of Oskaloosa, and Rose Van Woerkom of New Sharon.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents, by Pearl's parents Lambert and Hendreen Branderhorst, his brothers Marvin and Raymond Vos, and his in-laws Ernie Louwsma, Larry Van Woerkom, and Lois Vos.
