Pauline Phipps, 84

Pauline Phipps, 84, of Grinnell, died on Saturday, Mar. 14, 2015, at St. Francis Manor in Grinnell. A memorial service was held Wednesday, Mar. 18, at Smith Funeral Home in Grinnell. A private family burial will be held at a later date.

Pauline was born north of Brooklyn to Alan Paul and Jeanetta (Graham) Clayton on Feb. 16, 1931. She attended Grinnell schools and graduated from Grinnell High School in 1948.

On Apr. 19, 1952, she was united in marriage to Dale Phipps in Lancaster, MO. To this union, five children were born. She was a member of the Madison Christian Church and the American Legion Auxiliary.

Pauline enjoyed gardening, canning, and cooking. Apple or cherry pie were her favorite desserts. She will always be remembered for her Sunday dinners. Pauline liked watching the birds and squirrels through her window. She loved her grandchildren and played a big part in their lives.

She will be remembered by her children: Dale Phipps Jr. of Grinnell, Jeanne (Bob) Hunter of Searsboro, Miles Phipps of Grinnell, Delores "Dolly" (Wayne) Kinzebach of Barnes City, and Charles Phipps of Grinnell; 10 grandchildren; 14 great- grandchildren; one great-great- grandchild; her sister-in-law, Marge Clayton of Grinnell; and her brother-in-law, Richard Dean of Marshalltown.

Pauline was preceded in death by her parents; her husband in 1981; five brothers: Miles, Roger, Graham, Robert, and Paul Clayton; one sister, Mary Dean; and her special longtime friend, Paul Laverty.
