Nina Buckingham, 85

Nina M. Buckingham, 85, of Reasnor, died Tues-day, Dec. 17, 2019, at Newton Village. A funeral service was held at 11 a.m., Monday, Dec. 23, at Prairie City Church of the Brethren.  Memorials to the Prairie City Church of the Brethren or the Alzheimer’s Association may be left Wallace Family Funeral Home.

Nina, the daughter of Melvin and Bulah (Spain) Zickel, was born Dec. 16, 1934, at her family’s home in Reasnor. She graduated from Newton High School in 1953. Nina worked at area nursing homes and at Skiff Medical Center as a CNA.  Dec. 8, 1965, Nina was united in marriage with William “Bill” Buckingham in Omaha. They made their home in the Galesburg and Reasnor areas. Nina worked at the Maytag Company for 26 years, retiring in 1993. She was a member of the Prairie City Church of the Brethren and the UAW Local 997.  Nina and Bill had a large family and Nina loved hosting them all for dinner on the last Sunday of the month. Many of the recipes used were not written down, but all lovingly memorized. She also enjoyed gardening and canning, raising chickens, quilting, and embroidery work.

Nina is survived by her children:  George (Armenta) Buckingham of Des Moines, Terry (Jacque) Buckingham of Monroe, June Buckingham of Newton, Teresa Buckingham of Des Moines, Clara Fee of Attica, Arnie (Mary) O’Dell of Kellogg, Bob (Lesa) O’Dell of Reasnor, Billy Buckingham of Newton, and Eve (Ray) Sparks of Monroe; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren; her nephew, Wenton (Barb) Wyatt of Grinnell; and sisters-in-law, Betty Buckingham of Prairie City, Sarah Ayers of Prairie City, and Francisse Buckingham of Pleasant Hill. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, William Buckingham; son, William Edward Buckingham; and a sister, Naomi Wyatt.
