Nellie Harthoorn, 101

Funeral services for Cornelia “Nellie” Harthoorn, 101, of Pella and formerly of Sully, will be at 10:30 a.m., Friday, Aug. 29, 2014, at Sully Christian Reformed Church. Visitation will begin at 2 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 28, with family present 5-7 p.m. at Pella Garden Chapel Funeral Home. Memorials have been designated for Sully Christian Reformed Church Missions. Interment will be in Sully Cemetery.

Cornelia Marie Harthoorn was born July 16, 1913, to John D. and Jennie Plate Jansen at the family farm home north of Sully. She went to her heavenly home on Monday, Aug. 25, at The Cottages in Pella at the age of 101. She received her early education at the Sudlow Country School where she graduated from the eighth grade. She lived in the Lynnville/Sully area all her life.

On Feb. 4, 1938, Nellie was united in marriage with Cornelius "Case" Harthoorn at the Sully Christian Reformed Church parsonage. They were blessed with four children. Nellie enjoyed being a homemaker and caring for her family. She enjoyed gardening, crocheting caps for missions, and caring for her grandchildren. She was a member of the Sully Christian Reformed Church. After her husband's death in 1970, Nellie worked as a cook at the Coffee Cup Café in Sully.

Those left to cherish her memory are her children: Carroll (Norma) Harthoorn of Sully, Leona (Ed) Arkema of Cedar Rapids, and Linda (Del) Zuidema of Pella; her daughter-in-law, Lois Harthoorn of Pella; 15 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-

She is also survived by her brother-in-law, John Vos of Sacramento, CA; and sisters-in-law, Cora Jansen of Sully and Ernestine Dieleman of Sully.

Nellie was preceded in death by her husband, Cornelius, in 1970; her son, Melvin Harthoorn; great-grandson, Brandon Harthoorn; and siblings: Hattie Jansen, Colby Jansen, Gerrit (Mattie) Jansen, Minnie (Dick) Rolffs, Herman (Bessie) Jansen, Bertha (John) Van Genderen, Effie Vos, and John (Alice) Jansen.

Nellie will be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-

grandmother. She was a very patient and content person.
