Myron Krull, 76

Myron J. Krull, 76, of Rock Rapids, went to Heaven Wednesday, May 17, 2023, doing what he loved to do near his childhood home, on a tractor.

Funeral services were held Monday, May 22, at First Reformed Church, Rock Rapids, at 10:30 a.m. A private family burial was held following the services.

Myron James Krull was born Feb. 4, 1947, in Hull to Alvin and Henrietta (Korthals) Krull. He attended school in George and graduated in 1965. He went on to attend Nettleton College in Sioux Falls, SD, for a degree in business and accounting. Myron met his beloved wife Penny Iwen on a blind date, and they were married four months later on Aug. 31, 1968. Myron worked his way from bookkeeper to manager, to owner of the Edna Elevator for the better part of four decades, where he met many lifelong friends.

When he wasn’t working, Myron loved to play fastpitch softball, with the Edna Elevator team for many years. Always an outdoorsman, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, and trapping. Even after retiring from the elevator, he couldn’t stop working. He loved his cows and filled his days caring for them, watching them from his recliner, and was always eager to tell you about them. He also had a love/hate relationship with the Minnesota Twins and Vikings.

Myron loved his wife and family and showed it through acts of service and beamed with pride when talking about them. He took the time to talk to everyone and had a contagious laugh when talking about his recent mishaps and adventures. We can only imagine what he had to say when he walked through Heaven’s gates and saw Jesus waiting for him.

Myron is survived by his wife, Penny; three children Marc (Natalie Falkenberg) Krull, Greg (Shelly Kramer) Krull, and ChyAnne (Shawn) Huyser; 12 grandchildren Taylor Krull, Matt Krull, Austin Krull, Dylann (Nick) Huyser-Williams, Brynn Krull, Jadyn Krull, Wyatt Krull, Jager Huyser, Laurel Krull, Tatum Huyser, Owen Krull, Chayse Huyser; and one great-grandchild, Jackson Krull.

Myron was preceded in death by his parents; a nephew Gary Enderson; and brother-in-law Duane Enderson.

An accident around 11:10 a.m. Wednesday morning, May 17, about a mile northeast of the northwest Iowa community of Edna between George and Rock Rapids, claimed Krull’s life. Iowa State Patrol reported Krull was westbound on a rural road driving a 1963 Farmall tractor pulling a spraying implement, when a 2007 International tanker truck owned by Farmers Co-op Society and driven by Dennis Hayenga, 82, of Little Rock attempted to pass on the left. The truck struck the left rear corner of the sprayer, which became detached from the tractor, causing the tractor to roll over into the north ditch. Krull died at the scene. Hayenga was not injured.
