Maxine Shutts, 100

Maxine Shutts, 100, formerly of Sully, died June 22, 2022. Funeral service was at 2 p.m. on Monday, June 27, at Garden Chapel Fu-neral Home in Pella. Interment followed at St. Andrew’s Lutheran Cemetery, west of Sully. Memorials have been designated for St. Andrew's Lutheran Church of Sully and Hospice of the Midwest – Grinnell.

Apr. 12, 1922, (Wanda) Maxine was born to John and Ida (Hurwitz) Rebertus. She grew up on the family farm south of Pella and attended South Porterville and Pella schools before marrying (Harold) Wayne Shutts on Dec. 24, 1940. Together, they worked their century farm south of Sully for 40 years and relaxed at their summer home on Lake Ponderosa until 1999. She then purchased a lakeside home where she lived year-round until 2015 when she moved to Grinnell at age 93.

Maxine loved her faith, family, and friends, and in addition to farming, she enjoyed gardening, cooking, fishing, painting, playing cards, taking pontoon rides, singing hymns while playing the organ, and so much more. Her kind and generous heart were well known to all, along with her very spunky personality.

She was preceded in death by her parents; beloved husband Wayne; sister (Donna) Darlene McDaniel; brother Robert Rebertus; and nephews Gauge Anderson, Robert McDaniel, David Rebertus (godson), and Dennis Rebertus.

She is survived by her brother Donald (Barbara) Rebertus, sister-in-law Delores V Rebertus, many nieces and nephews including godchildren Marilyn Van Soelen, Peggy Huyser, and Rob Rebertus as well as her honorary son and daughter-in-law Wayne and Norma Van Dyke.

Special thanks to all at Windsor Manor in Grinnell and Hospice of the Midwest for their care, friendship, and support.
