Maxice Northcutt, 95

Maxice Northcutt, 95, of Sully passed away late Thursday evening, Jan. 8, 2015, at the Hospice of Pella Comfort House 40 days prior to her 96th birthday. Funeral services were held Jan. 12 at Van Dyk–Duven Funeral Home in Pella.

Maxice Irene Kruseman was born Feb. 17, 1919, near Sully. She was the daughter of Everett C. and Christina (Boot) Kruseman. Maxice graduated from Sully High School in Sully in May 1937. On Mar. 11, 1938, she and Lowell Lofland Northcutt were united in marriage at Lacey. To this union three children were born.

Maxice and Lowell began their marriage in Sully where he began hauling cream and milk. In 1953, they moved south of Sully where they lived the remainder of their married life. Maxice was a devoted wife to Lowell as his health began to decline and dedicated homemaker to their three children all these years. She enjoyed the outdoors, mowing, and raising flowers, planting trees, and traveling. They traveled frequently to Canada to fish (for the big one) and 12 times to Alaska. In addition to her home, Maxice’s favorite place was in a boat on the water. They were privileged to enjoy 60 years of married life together before he passed away one day following their 60th wedding anniversary. Following his death, Maxice continued living on their farm until Dec. 26, 2014, when she became hospitalized.

Those who will remember her quiet lifestyle are her daughters, Carolyn Vonk of Sully and Charlotte Norris of Mountain Home, AR; daughter-in-law, Jeannie Northcutt of Sully; seven grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren. Of her original family, Maxice leaves her younger sister, Mildred (Warren) Stanley of Searsboro; a sister-in-law, Voyian (Ralph) Richards of Mondovi, WI; and a brother-in-law, Vernon Northcutt of New Sharon.

Maxice was preceded in death by her husband, Lowell Northcutt on Mar. 12, 1998; her son, Larry Northcutt on June 20, 2011; three sons-in-law: Harlan Sterk, Donald Norris, and Cleo Vonk; her parents; her parents-in-law, Earl and Susan (Hull) Northcutt; her older brother, Milo Kruseman and his wife, Vera; her brother-in-law, Warren Stanley; and the following sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law: Erlyne (Northcutt) De Jong, Anna (Northcutt) McDowell, Clark, Gordon, and Carl Northcutt.

Maxice was baptized on May 2, 1965, at the Methodist Church in Taintor, Iowa. She will be remembered as a loving mother and grandmother who always had time for each of them.
