Mary Sommar, 90

Mass of Christian Burial for Mary E. Sommar, 90, and Paul Sommar, 97, will be Saturday, June 27, 2020, at 1 p.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Melcher-Dallas. Interment will be at the Sacred Heart Cemetery following the service. The service may also be viewed on the Pierschbacher Funeral Home Facebook page beginning at the service time.

Family will receive friends on Friday, June 26, at the Pierschbacher Funeral Home from 4-6 p.m. followed by a rosary service at 6 p.m.

Mary was born May 17, 1930, to James Pearl and Iantha (Brasher) Bucklew in Dallas, IA. She grew up in Dallas and graduated from Dallas High School in 1948. Mary was united in marriage to Paul Sommar on June 15, 1949. They were blessed with three children: Kathy, Carol, and Joey.

Mary was foremost a wife and mother as well as an excellent seamstress. She worked alongside Paul on the farm as well as when they managed the Phillips 66 Station. She was very active in the Sacred Heart Church and was always willing to lend a helping hand whenever she could. She also worked at several local businesses, which she enjoyed immensely. However, her first love was her family whom will greatly miss her.

Mary passed away June 21, 2020, at the age of 90. She is survived by daughters: Kathy Gass and Carol Shives; grandchildren: Paul (Jamie) Gass, Mark (Michelle) Gass, Jennifer (Darrell) Van Gorp, and Brian (Patricia) Shives; great-grandchildren: Kayla, Morgan, Caiden, Treylee, Emma, Isabella, Kyra, Emily, Kyle, Lukas, Owen, Drew (Danielle), Tyler (Jackie), Dillon, and Dakota; great-great-grandchildren: Addison, Breonna, and Reagen; and sister, Helen Bucklew.

Preceding Mary in death were her husband, Paul; son, Joey; parents; a brother, Robert Bucklew; and many nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
