Mary Lou Beyer, 84

Mary Lou Beyer was born May 25, 1934, to A.W. and Thelma (Mitchell) Garrett in Oskaloosa. She passed away at The Comfort House in Pella on Aug. 28, 2018. Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 1, at Lynnville Friends Church. Interment was in Woodland Cemetery, Lynnville. Memorials may be given to the Lynnville Historical Society.

Mary Lou attended Oskaloosa Grade School and was a 1952 graduate of Oskaloosa High School.

Oct. 14, 1954, she was united in marriage to Carrol Beyer. To this union they were blessed with two children: Candy and Barry. Mary Lou helped her husband Carrol work on the farm her entire life. Family was very important to her, and her greatest joy was her grandchildren.  She always made time for them and made them feel special. She loved watching them play sports and never missed a game in which they played. She was a member of Lynnville Friends Church.

Those left to cherish her memory are her children: Candy (Merl) Van Zante and Barry (Linda) Beyer; her grandchildren: Matthew (Alexis) Van Zante, Landon (Jana) Van Zante, Jordon Van Zante and Allie Reed, Nick Beyer and Kelsey Beyer; and four great-grandchildren: Dawson and Braden Van Zante and Alexa and Noelle Van Zante. Mary Lou is survived by her sisters Betty Plate of Pella and Elaine (Danny) Brown of Oskaloosa; her sisters-in-law: Nadine Garrett and Nancy Garrett; and her sibling-in-law Lloyd (Arlene) Brand.

Mary Lou was preceded in death by her husband Carrol; her parents; her parents-in-law; her siblings and in-laws: Dorothy (Dale) Hazelett, Arlene (Bill) Salway, Bill (Miladean) Garrett, Bob (Juanita) Garrett, Bob Plate, Margie (Fred) Black, Don Garrett, and Keith Garrett.
