Marion Playle, 81

Marion Playle, 81, of Barnes City, passed away Tuesday morning, Mar. 19, 2024, at Mahaska Health Partnership Hospice Serenity House in Oskaloosa. Funeral services were at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, Mar. 21, at Holland-Coble Funeral Home of New Sharon. Burial was in Friends Cemetery in New Sharon. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are to Barnes City Fire Department or Mahaska Health Partnership Hospice Serenity House.

Marion Gail Playle, the daughter of Harvey and Dorothy (Holcomb) Knowler, was born Aug. 24, 1942, in Dodge City, MN. She attended country school near Oskaloosa before attending school through the eighth grade at Lacey School. Following school, Marion worked at Lynn Poultry in Oskaloosa. Feb. 28, 1962, Marion was united in marriage to Lewis Playle in Oskaloosa. To this union two children were born, Marylou and Kelly. Marion helped Lewis with his trucking business for a few years before working as a nurse’s aide at Tower Park Care Center and Crystal Heights Care Center, both in Oskaloosa. She then went to work for Care Initiatives sharing time at both the Montezuma and New Sharon Nursing and Rehab Centers, retiring in 2003. She enjoyed spending time outdoors by gardening, canning, taking care of her flowers, and mowing the yard. She also enjoyed spending time at Mesquaki Casino, cooking, baking, watching WWE Wrestling, going to the races, and knowing everything that was happening in Barnes City. Most importantly, she loved her family and hosting Sunday morning coffee time. Marion also collected Indian and Coca Cola memorabilia along with dream catchers.

Her legacy will be honored by her husband Lewis Playle of Barnes City; her daughter Marylou (Mark) Van Wyk of Lynnville; her grandchildren Matt (Becky) Van Wyk, Tony (Ashley) Van Wyk, Landen Playle, Ashlynn Playle, Bryant Playle, and Sullivan Playle; six great-grandchildren James Van Wyk, Chase Van Wyk, Brooke (fiance Jordan) McQuiston, Aiden McQuiston, Kale Van Wyk, and Hudson Van Wyk; two sisters Velma (Harry) Chandler of New Sharon and Connie Molenburg of New Sharon; along with many nieces, nephews, and friends.

Marion was preceded in death by her parents; her son Kelly Playle; five sisters Donna Hughes, Vivian “Tootie” Eaton, Dorothy Conway, Lucille Vanderhyde, and Sandra Milder; two brothers Jack Knowler and Walt Knowler; along with a  brother in infancy, Harvey Ray Jr.
