Marilyn Hovda, 70

Marilyn Hovda, 70, of Sully, died July 9, 2023. Private family grave-side service was 10 a.m., Wednesday, July 12, at Bethany Cemetery, Sully, followed by a memorial service at 11 a.m. at Sully Community Church. Memorials have been designated for Many Hands For Haiti, 709 Main Street, Pella.

Marilyn Sue Hovda was born Oct. 10, 1952, to Earl W. and Mary Lois (Schmidt) Vande Krol. She grew up in Sully, graduated from Lynnville-Sully High School, and attended Oak Hills Bible College, where she met her husband. Aug. 20, 1971, she was united in marriage to Michael Hovda. Marilyn was a stay-at-home mother to their four children: Rachel, Jeremy, Bethany, and Nathanael.

Marilyn enjoyed sewing, knit-ting, crocheting, shopping, and making puzzles. She also enjoyed music and played many musical instruments. Marilyn traveled to many places: Norway, France, Germany, Italy, Belgium, The Netherlands, United Kingdom, Egypt, Israel, and Mexico. She was a devout Christian who was filled with a deep faith. Most of all, she loved her children and grand-children.

Those left to cherish her memory are: Rachel (Kyle) Wipf of Newton, Jeremy (Sydney) Hovda of Cam-bridge, MA, Bethany Hovda of Grinnell, and Nathanael Hovda of Grinnell; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; sister Phyllis (Jerry) Hackert of Sully; and brother Wes (Jaci) Vande Krol of Lynnville.

Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents and her granddaughter Maggie Sue Van Kooten.
