Margaret Ruth Van Wyk, the youngest of six children born to Henry J. and Christina (Mathes) Van Wyk, was born Apr. 21,1927, at their farm home east of Sully. Margaret attended Taylor Country Grade School, Sully Grade School, Sully High School, and one semester at Central College in Pella. She then taught for one year at the Brown Country School east of Galesburg.
June 5, 1946, she and Lester Loren Huyser, son of Stoffel and Grace (Paltzer) Huyser, were united in marriage at the home of Margaret’s parents in Sully. They became the parents of three sons: Dale Eugene, Norman Gene, and Darl Lee. Their farm home was on the west edge of Sully where she unexpectedly lost Lester at the young age of 43 years old on June 26,1969. Margaret remained living there, providing for, and nurturing her sons, whom she was very proud of.
Family and home were her priorities, baking and caring for her family she enjoyed. With that passion for baking, she was widely known to many in the community. She independently took a vacant building in Sully and opened and operated the Coffee Cup Café for many years. She baked pies, buns, pecan rolls, cinnamon rolls, and cookies and loved every minute of it.
Nov. 3, 1972, Margaret and Russell Vande Krol were married, and they made their home together east of Sully, later moving into Sully. Russell passed away Oct. 3, 2002. Margaret continued living in their home where she remained active with her home bakeshop and an active member of Sully First Reformed Church where she provided cookies for coffee after services. She will be fondly remembered by many for her baking, even at her advanced age.
She is survived by her three sons and their families: Dale (Minnie) Huyser of Sully, Norman Huyser of Buckeye, AZ, Darl Huyser and Joyce Halblom of Grinnell; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; her stepchildren and their families: Delwin (Patti) Vande Krol, Douglas (Karen) Vande Krol, Carolyn Vande Krol, Cynthia Vande Krol, and James Breckenridge.
She also leaves two brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Lehrl (Ruth) Vande Krol and Daniel (Sandy) Vande Krol.
She was preceded in death by her husbands Lester Huyser and Russell Vande Krol; two stepsons Claren and Roland Vande Krol; stepdaughter Lillian Breckenridge; her parents; and all of her siblings and their spouses: Tressie and Walter Vander Zyl, Henry and Pearl Van Wyk, Wilma and Arthur Vander Pol, Martin and Marjorie Van Wyk, and Jeanette and Fred De Groot; her parents-in-law Stoffel and Grace Huyser; and sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Margaret (Huyser) and Ben Dunsbergen.
Margaret had a lifelong membership at Sully First Reformed Church.
