Maggie Baker, 71

Margaret Lynn “Maggie” Baker of Olathe, KS, unexpectedly passed away Nov. 04, 2024. A Celebration of Life was held from noon-1 p.m., Saturday, May 10, 2025, at Holland-Coble Funeral Home in New Sharon. Burial was in Sully Cemetery in Sully.

Maggie was born Nov. 20, 1953, in New Hampton. She was the daughter of Mark Homer and Madelynn Anne (Elscott) Baker. Maggie graduated from Fort Dodge High School in 1973, then went on to Wartburg College, earning a bachelor’s degree in philosophy (minor in political science).  Maggie then attended the University of Iowa where she obtained a master’s degree in library science.

After graduation, Maggie took a position at the Fort Dodge Public Library, working there until 1987.  Thereafter, she took a similar position in Council Bluffs. Maggie then moved to the Olathe (KS) Public Library and spent the remainder of her working career there.

Remaining to cherish Maggie’s memory are her brother Raymond Mark (Diane) Baker of Prairie Grove, AR, Keith Homer (Ellen) Baker of West Chester, OH, and Daniel J. (Teri) Baker of Overland Park, KS; nephews Michael Baker, Kyle Baker, and Travis Baker; and nieces Meredith Baker and Allison Baker.

Maggie was an avid and engaged student of genealogy. She pursued her passion to develop a detailed and meticulously documented family history tracing back to origins in Europe and pre-revolutionary America.  Maggie shared her talents with the Johnson County Genealogy Society for over 10 years, serving as their librarian for several years.

Maggie was an avid gardener and cook. She also enjoyed travelling, bicycling, and the outdoors,

Maggie will long be missed with great sadness by all who knew her, especially her brothers and their families, her extended family, and her friends.
