Lucille Watson, 102

Lucille Watson, 102, went to be with her Lord and Savior Tuesday morning, May 26, 2015, at her home in Montezuma. Funeral services were held May 30 at the Searsboro Community Church. Burial was in the West Liberty Cemetery east of Montezuma. Memorial contributions may be made to the Searsboro Community Church or Hospice of Pella.

Lucille Marie Watson, the daughter of Eli and Martha Jane (Quaintance) Bryan, was born Dec. 2, 1912, in Barnes City. She attended Kaiser Country School, where she graduated the top of the eighth grade. On Nov. 29, 1934, Lucille was united in marriage to Lewis Tracy Watson in Des Moines at the home of the same minister who officiated the marriage of her parents. To this union, seven children were born. They farmed east of Searsboro for many years until moving to Montezuma in 1993. She was employed by the glove factory in Grinnell for a short time. Lucille was a very active member of the Searsboro Community Church. She kept busy gardening and raising her children. God and her family were most important to her. She was a member of the Bunker Hill Club. She hosted many family nights of Mexican Train Dominoes games. She loved a good garage sale, thrift stores, and eating at Bonanza. If anyone ever asked what Lucille's secret to life was, she replied with, "It was all God; God, family, and vitamins."

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Lewis Watson in 1996; two sons, Freddy Watson in 2014 and Robert Max in infancy; four brothers, Raford, LeRoy, Earl, and Clifford Bryan; and one sister, Rilla McCormick.

Lucille's memory will be honored by two sons, Raymond (Mary Jo) Watson of Montezuma and Bill (Dianne) Watson of Elizabeth, CO; three daughters, Rilla (Ron) Baker of Montezuma, Martha (Don) Vos of Montezuma, and LuAnne (Mike) Dean of Las Vegas, NV; a daughter-in-law, Mary Lu Watson; 17 grandchildren, Ann Watson, Karol Watson, Brian (Dawn) Watson, Mark (Vonna) Watson, Mike (Deanna) Watson, David (Kay) Watson, Lisa Johnson, Rodney (Jill) Baker, John Baker, Randy Baker, Ted Watson, Sean (Kristal) Watson, Jason Vos, Amy (Scott) Worrall, Jackie (Brian) Mesnard, Robert (Amanda) Dean, and Michelle Dean; 25 great-grandchildren, eight great-great-grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
