Lowell Sneller, 67

Memorial service for Lowell J Sneller, 67, were held 10 a.m., Saturday, Jan. 6, 2024,  at Third Church, Pella.

Lowell was born Aug. 30, 1956, in Oskaloosa to Henry and Deretha (De Goey) Sneller. Moving about in his younger years, he attended primary school in Colfax, Searsboro, and Sully. His senior year, 1976, he attended and graduated from Newton High School. Lowell made many friends along the way.

Lowell was united in marriage to Sherry Visser Dec. 27, 1980. Of this union, three children were born: Laci, Lucas, and Loran.

Lowell loved to work. From building fence, farming, and splitting wood to working with his hands and creating things in his shop, his shop door was always open for a project. Lowell loved the outdoors. He loved helping cut hay, fixing a baler or other equipment, and pushing snow.

Lowell worked at Pella Corporation and retired in 2020 after 36 years of service. He met many friends working in the lumber plant. Over the last weeks, his family has heard many stories of his adventures there.

Lowell’s family was dear to his heart. He loved teaching the next generations how to build projects, fix equipment, play a new game, and enjoy a good coloring book. He loved attending agriculture, sporting, and school events.

Lowell was an active member of the Red Rock Threshers Club. He took great pride in his antique tractors, restoring a few of them with his children. He could often be found at Tulip Time showing off his father’s 1942 John Deere B and his Uncle Bill’s 1953 John Deere B.

Lowell was a strong supporter of the Marion County Cattlemen, Pella and Pella Christian FFA, and Marion County 4-H. He was a 4-H leader for the County Line 4-H Club for 20 years.

In his later life, he and Sherry enjoyed traveling with their friends and visiting family. They loved to travel to Lake of the Ozarks, Florida, and most recently Arizona.

In late 2018, Lowell was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma, a plasma cell cancer that his family was all too familiar with. He endured a long battle with many treatments. Lowell joined many loved ones and his Lord on Jan. 2, 2024.

Lowell is survived by his wife Sherry and their family: Laci (Steve) Dykstra, Cameron, Ellie, and Haddie, Lucas (Lacy) Sneller, Gentry, and Lyncoln, and Loran Sneller and fiancé Cody Roberts. He is also survived by his siblings: Linda Tibboel, Connie Heyveld, and Cornie Sneller; in-laws Mark and Bonnie Crady, Thel Sneller, and Dan and Karla Visser; and many friends.

Lowell was preceded in death by his parents; in-laws Laverne and Carol (Breuklander) Visser, and Cornie Bambrook; brother Alvin Sneller; brothers-in-law Harold Tibboel and Don Heyveld; and infant granddaughter Reagan Leanne Sneller.
