Louis Terlouw, 91

Louis Terlouw, 91, of Pella, passed away on Aug. 2, 2025, at The Cottages in Pella. Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, Aug. 9, at Berean Baptist Church in Pella.  A private family interment will be held at Sully Cemetery prior to the memorial service. Memorials may be given to the Berean Baptist Church in Pella for the Mission Fund.

Louis Harold Terlouw was born in Sully on Sept. 24, 1933, to John O. and Phebe Ann (Renaud) Terlouw. He was the youngest of nine children and attended Chester Grade School and Sully High School.        Oct. 18, 1954, he married Joan Arlene Versendaal in Sully. To this union were born: Cleo, Lila, Pamela, Carlene, and Rhonda.

Louis served in the Navy at Alameda Naval Station from 1955 to 1957. After the Navy, he continued his work as a mechanic for White Way Auto in Pella, Leydens Auto in Pella, his own business – Terlouw Sales and Service in Monroe, and later worked in Pella at CT Farm and Country and Arnold Motor Supply.

He was a faithful member of First Baptist Church in Monroe and then at Berean Baptist Church in Pella.

He enjoyed all things related to car mechanics and bird watching.

Louis is survived by his wife Joan and his four daughters: Lila (Gregg) Berger of Oswego, IL, Pamela (Bob) Liptack of Lake of the Four Seasons, IN, Carlene (Barry) Heald of Belfast, ME, and Rhonda (Rick) Ehrhardt of Adel; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister Theda Fopma of Grinnell, one brother-in-law Adrian Versendaal of Grinnell, and many stepgrandchildren, stepgreat-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Louis was preceded in death by his parents, Joan’s parents, infant son Cleo, and seven of his siblings: Arletta Baarda, Jennie Marie Hurst, Henry Charles Terlouw, Martha Willemsen, Isabelle Vander Weerdt, Marion Terlouw, and Lloyd Terlouw.
