Lois Imogene Sevenbergen, 89, of Newton died Thursday, July 21, 2016, at Newton Healthcare. A memorial service was held July 25 at Foursquare Church in Newton. Memorials to the church may be left at the church or Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory.

Lois, the daughter of Louie and Ada (Yates) Dickens, was born Apr. 7, 1927, in rural Independence, KS. She was raised in rural Kansas and went through the eighth grade at the Irish Creek Schoolhouse. In the 1960s, she was united in marriage with Wayne Perkins and moved to Iowa. They made their home west of Sully for 30 years. Education was important to Lois, and since she was not able to complete high school in Kansas because of an illness, she later graduated from Newton High School. She worked as an EKG technician at Skiff Medical Center and then for seven years as a junior underwriter in the data entry department at Grinnell Mutual, retiring in 1980. Lois was a member of the Foursquare Church in Newton and TOPS #689. She enjoyed quilting and family genealogy, and was also referred to as the family photographer because of her love of taking pictures.

Survivors are her children: Darrell Dickens of Lawrence, KS, Carol (Rick) Parsons of Kennewick, WA, Deborah (Terry) Woods of Eddyville, Jim (Jodi) Holloway of Newton, Dan (LaVonne) Perkins, Jr. of Newton, Sharon Curren of Mitchellville, Waynetta Farrington of Nevada, and Dorothy Bowen of Leavenworth, KS; 18 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; her brother, Loren Dickens of Neodesha, KS; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband of 34 years, Wayne Perkins; sister, Ruth Burd; and three brothers, Edgar Dickens, Clarence Dickens, and Louie Arthur Dickens.
