Funeral services for Elizabeth Van Hemert, 91, of Pella and formerly of Sully, were held at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 15, 2020, at Sully First Reformed Church following burial at 8:30 a.m. in Sully Cemetery. Memorials have been designated for Sully First Reformed Church building projects.
Elizabeth Wilhelmina Van Hemert was born Feb. 8, 1929, to Bert and Jennie (DeKoning) Harsselaar, in Jasper County. She passed away on Feb. 12, at The Cottages in Pella.
In 1948, Liz met Gerald Allen Van Hemert and the two were married on Feb. 21, 1950, in Newton. To this union, two children were born: Rosalie and Randy.
She loved to spend time with family and friends and never missed a family party.
Those left to cherish her memory are her son Randy Van Hemert of San Antonio, TX; her daughter Rosie (Keith) De Bruin, of Pella; 11 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother-in-law Wayne Van Hemert of Springfield, IL, and many nieces and nephews.
Liz was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her parents-in-law Cornelius and Johanna Van Hemert, and her siblings and several in-laws.
