Linda James, 72

Linda Ann James, 72, of Lynnville, went home to be with Jesus on Thursday, July 22, 2021, in Grinnell.

Private family services and burial will be held at a later date at Woodland Cemetery in Lynnville.

Memorial contributions may be designated to the Lynnville Library.

Linda was born Oct. 19, 1948, in Newton, the daughter of Wilbur and Anna Jean Halter. She was raised in Newton and was a graduate of Newton High School. She spent a lot of her childhood reading and going to the Newton Public Library. She was married to Joe Berry and to this union a daughter, Ronda Jean, was born. He passed away soon after.

Aug. 10, 1971, she was united in marriage to Earl Eugene James in Newton. The couple lived on the family farm in Jasper County near Lynnville with their children Danny, Donnie, Ronda, and Mark.

Linda was a member of Lynnville Heart of Worship Church and for over 20 years she served as the library director of the Lynnville Library.

Linda loved spending time with her family, working in her flowerbed, and tole painting. She was a talented artist.

Those left to cherish her memory are her husband of 49 years, Earl James of Lynnville; three sons, Danny (Debbie) James, Donnie (Jessica) James, and Mark (Heather) James; two sisters, Joyce (Joe) Behrens and Mary (Dennis) Sloan; one brother, David (Bev) Halter; eight grandchildren, Kimberly Pruitt, Kelly Davis, Kegan Wertz, Kenzie Stier, Shonna and Richelle Roush, and Kynlee and Paige James; and seven great-grandchildren, Everett, Josie Russell, Maverick, MacGyver, Harley, and Veronica.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her daughter Ronda Roush, two great-grandchildren McCoy and RorieAnn Davis, a sister-in-law Ramona James, and a brother-in-law Charles James.
