Leona Van Sant, 82

Leona Van Sant, 82, of Sully passed away Mon-day, Mar. 10, 2014, at the Griffin Nursing Home in Knoxville.

Funeral services were held Saturday, Mar. 15, at Sully First Reformed Church in Sully. Burial took place at the Sully Cemetery.

Leona Mae Van Sant was born on Aug. 1, 1931, to John H. and Agnes Steenhoek Plate near Leighton. She received her early education at a country school near her home.

On Oct. 18, 1951, Leona was united in marriage with Geurt John Van Sant. They were blessed with four children.

Leona was a devoted mother and homemaker. After raising her children to the teen years, she began employment with the Lynnville-Sully School District driving a school bus which she did for 31 years. She enjoyed following her children in their sports and music events. She was actively involved in Dollars for Scholars at the Lynnville-Sully High School. She also enjoyed baking cakes for weddings and birthdays.

She is survived by her husband, Geurt, of Pella; her four children: Gary Van Sant of St. Charles, MO, Roger (Lisa) Van Sant of Sully, Duane (Ann) Van Sant of Des Moines, and Barbara Van Sant of Sully; two grandchildren: Anthony James and his wife, Keri, and Kathryn Sue; and one great-grandchild, Archer William.

Memorials may be given to the Sully Ambulance Service.
