Kevin Tish, 62

Kevin Tish, 62, of Newton passed away Wednesday, Apr. 15, 2020, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines. Due to state and federal guidance on public gatherings, the family held a drive-by visitation from 4-7 p.m. on Wednesday, Apr. 22, at Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory in Newton. Memorials to Outdoors Without Boundaries can be left at the funeral home.

Kevin, the son of Earl and Marilyn (Slay) Tish, was born Oct. 6, 1957, in Petersburg, VA. He graduated from Newton High School in 1976 and was a graduate of DMACC and the University of Northern Iowa. Kevin was united in marriage with Cyndi Peterman on Sept. 24, 1988, in Gladstone, MO. Kevin worked for The Maytag Company for over 24 years and then went on to work for CHS/Key Co-op in Sully. He also owned and operated a snow removal business, which he was very passionate about. When his boys were younger, Kevin coached and served on the boards of the Newton Wrestling Club, NASA Soccer, and Newton Little League Baseball. He also coached the boys’ flag football teams and served on the Newton Athletic Booster Club Board. Kevin was a devoted and active member of Outdoors Without Boundaries and was also a member of the Moose Lodge. His passions included hunting, fishing, being outdoors, scuba diving, gardening and canning (especially tomatoes), mushroom hunting, and fishing from his boat at Lake Ponderosa. Kevin’s main focus, though, was the love for his family, who remembers him for his positive outlook on life, his selflessness, and how hard he worked.

Kevin is survived by his wife, Cyndi of Newton; sons: Dr. Brandon (Kelsey) Tish, Blake (Annie) Tish, and Bryce (Jamie) Tish, all of Newton; his mother, Marilyn Tish of Newton; his sister, Kimbra (Kevin) Korte of Newton; and his nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his father, Earl Tish.
