Ken McGregor, 96

Kenneth E. McGregor, 96, of Reasnor, passed away Sunday, Apr. 2, 2023, at Park Centre in Newton. Funeral services were held Thursday, Apr. 6, at 2 p.m. at Coburn Funeral Home in Monroe. Burial was at Silent City Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to Monroe American Legion or Monroe Fire Department.

The son of Leslie Efnor and Margaret (Van Willigen) McGregor, Kenneth was born Sept. 29, 1926, on the family farm east of Reasnor. Kenneth attended country schools until eighth grade at Palo Alto #11. He served in the United States Army from 1950-1952. While in the Army, he was a Staff Sergeant in the 2nd Infantry Division in Ft. Hood, TX. He was sent to the 109th field hospital in Austria. Once he returned home, he transferred to the Army Reserve. Oct. 29, 1953, he was united in marriage to Charlene Westbrook in Newton. To this union, six daughters were born. Kenneth lived and farmed in the area his entire life. He was a member of the Iowa Farm Bureau and the Monroe American Legion.

Those left to honor his memory include his children: Janet (Kevin) Borts, Jean (Dakota Madsen) McGregor, Sharon Verhey, Kathy (Frank) Vander Broek, and Donna (Monte) Busselman; nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and his brother, Ralph (Shirley) McGregor. Kenneth was preceded in death by his parents, wife Charlene, daughter Carolyn, son-in-law Dennis Verhey, brother Willard, and  sister Mardelle Webb.

The family would like to extend a big thank you to the staff at Park Centre in Newton. Their love and care will never be forgotten.
