Keith L. Goodyk, 56

Keith L. Goodyk, 56, of Pella, passed away Tuesday night, Feb. 17, 2015, at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines. Funeral services were held Saturday, Feb. 21, at Calvary Christian Reformed Church in Pella.

Interment was in Sully Cemetery. Memorials have been designated for the Za-Ga-Zig Shrine in Altoona.

Keith Lugene Goodyk was born Dec. 8, 1958, at the Mahaska County Hospital in Oskaloosa. He was the youngest of five children born to Wiebe and Freda (Vander Wilt) Goodyk and was baptized at the Sully Christian Reformed Church. Keith attended Sully Christian School and was a 1977 graduate of Pella Christian High School.

Keith worked part-time for Klyn Tire in Pella during high school and continued his working discipline thereafter. He became the manager of the Pella Cooperative Lumber Division. In 1983, he entered into a partnership and purchased the lumber company, which became known as Pella Lumber. In 1988, Keith started Pella Building Systems. He built mini-storage buildings in several states throughout the United States. Keith was a member of the Pella Masonic Lodge No. 55 A.M & A. F., Za-Ga-Zig Shriners in Altoona, Pheasants Forever, and the National Rife Association.

Those whose lives were touched during his 56 years of life are his daughter, Emily Goodyk-Forsythe (who was born to him and Sandra Robinson in 1986) and her husband, Derek Forsythe, of Ankeny; his son, Wiebe Goodyk of Pella (who was born to him and Barbara Schroder in 1990); and a daughter, Kelley Jean Goodyk (who stole his heart in 1989) and Chad Helle and her daughter, Toryn Helle, Keith’s granddaughter, of Fort Dodge. Keith leaves his three brothers and his sister: Marvin (Myrna) Goodyk of Sully, Beverly (Cass) Rozendaal of Pella, Melvin (Billie) Goodyk of Springboro, OH, and Verlin (Lesley) Goodyk of Knoxville; along with several nieces and nephews, many cousins, and a host of friends, too many to mention. Keith was a one-of-a-kind friend; they could be apart for years and pick up right where they left off, always having fun.

He was preceded in death by his father, Wiebe Goodyk, in 1971; and his mother, Freda Goodyk, in 2013.

Keith enjoyed fishing and hunting and spending time with his family and many friends. He was always one to help another person in need. Keith was adored by his nieces and nephews and warmed the hearts of his family and friends with his love and generosity.
