Junior Christensen, 87

Junior Christensen, 87, of rural Sully, died on Thursday, Jan. 8, 2015, at his home. A funeral service was held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 13, at the Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory in Newton.   Memorials to the Killduff United Methodist Church or the American Parkinson’s Disease Association may be left at the funeral home.

Junior, the son of Alfred and Marie (Merrill) Christensen, was born Dec. 8, 1927, in rural Pella. His family moved to a farm near Kellogg in 1936 and then to a farm near Tracy in 1942. Junior graduated from Attica High School in 1948 and was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1950. Junior was united in marriage with Joyce Reynolds on June 8, 1952, in Alabama. After being discharged, they returned to Iowa and farmed near Attica until moving to rural Sully in 1954. Junior was a lifelong farmer. He was a member of the Killduff United Methodist Church. Junior and Joyce enjoyed traveling and vacationing and had wintered in Arizona for 22 winters.

Those left to honor Junior’s memory are his wife, Joyce Christensen of rural Sully; children, Gary (Lynnette) Christensen of rural Sully; Greg (Denise) Christensen of Chandler, AZ, Melissa (Dan) Johnson of Madrid, and Mary Ann (Dale) Hawkins of Dinwiddie, VA; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; a sister, Christina Schilling of Knoxville; a brother, Marinus (Laverne) Christensen of Loveland, CO; and his many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; grandson, T.J. Christensen; and two sisters, Leora Beyer and Anna Laird.
