Judy Smith, 76

Judy Smith, 76, of New Sharon, passed away Wed-nesday evening, Apr. 10, 2024, at Mahaska Health Partnership Hospice Serenity House in Oskaloosa. Memorial services were at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, Apr. 13, at Union Mills Christian Church. A luncheon/visitation followed the service in the fellowship building of the church. Burial will be held at a later time at Union Mills Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Union Mills Christian Church or New Sharon Fire and Rescue.

Judith Ann Smith, daughter of Loren “Sparky” and Violet (Ross) McMains, was born Aug. 8, 1947, in Oskaloosa. She attended Success Country School near New Sharon before graduating from North Mahaska High School in 1965.

June 11, 1966, Judy was united in marriage to Rod Smith at Union Mills Christian Church. To this union, two daughters were born, Lory and Amy.

Judy worked at Bond’s Restaurant for a short time before working at North Mahaska High School as the high school secretary for over 30 years, retiring in 2009.

Judy looked forward to the Iowa State Fair every year and had camped there for over 50 years. She enjoyed traveling, spending time with her friends, decorating for different holidays, and going consignment store shopping. She was so proud of her family and cherished the time she spent with them. She absolutely adored her great-granddaughter, Rhenlee, and would get right down on the floor to play with her. She looked forward to going to her grandchildren’s activities and ball games. Judy enjoyed taking several trips to Branson and enjoyed taking in the shows and most recently she took a trip to New York with her grandson Dalton. She also enjoyed baking, cooking, and camping.

She was a member of Union Mills Christian Church and was very active with the women’s group, CWF “Christian Women’s Fellowship.”

Judy’s legacy will be honored by her daughters Lory (Marty) Hay of Sully and Amy Poe of New Sharon; five grandchildren Dalton Hay, Jade Hay, Cole (Lacey) Poe, Jake Poe, and Rylee Poe; one great- granddaughter Rhenlee Marie Poe; two sisters Connie (Kressie) McNew of Marion, IL, and Linda Fisher of Iowa Falls; along with many nieces, nephews, and friends.

Judy was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Rod Smith,  granddaughter Mylee Poe, and son-in-law Rob Poe.
