Judy K. Galloway, 81, of Newton and formerly of Grinnell, died Thurs-day, May 11, 2023, at her home surrounded by family after a brief battle with cancer. A visitation was held Monday, May 15, at Smith Funeral Home – Grinnell. Burial will be held at Searsboro Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be designated to Wesley Life Hospice and mailed in care of Smith Funeral Home, PO Box 368, Grinnell, IA 50112.
Judy was born Mar. 29, 1942, the daughter of Carl and Hazel Marie Nichols Evans in Iowa City. She was raised in Malcom and graduated from Malcom High School in 1959.
Judy met Denton Galloway while in high school, and the couple was united in marriage Oct. 16, 1959, while Denton was on leave from the Navy. Judy and Denton moved to the Des Moines area where Judy worked for Homesteaders Life Co. in various insurance jobs for over 30 years. The couple was blessed with two children, Jody and DeAnna, and they raised their family in Carlisle. Judy and Denton later moved back to the Grinnell area where she worked for Grinnell College in admissions for many years.
Judy loved her family and friends, following her grandkids in their activities, and going to the Meskwaki Casino with her friends. She enjoyed traveling with her husband Denton and the many trips they took to the Oregon coast together.
Judy is survived by her husband Denton of Newton; children Jody (Bobette) Galloway of West Des Moines and DeAnna (John) Williams of Carlisle; grandchildren Logan (Mike) Galloway, Piper (Mat) Wolff, Jeremy (Amanda) Orr, Jennifer (Andrew) Stutsman, and Bryan Williams; many great-grandchildren; two half-sisters; and many stepsiblings, nieces, and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents Carl (Martha) Evans and Hazel Marie (Lloyd) Winchell; her brother Jim (Carol) Evans; one grandson Lucas Palar; and one half sister.
