Joyce E. Christensen, 85

Joyce E. Christensen, 85, of Sully, died Friday, Dec. 13, 2019, at Newton Village.  A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, Dec. 20, at Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory in Newton. The family will greet friends from 5-7 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 19, at the funeral home. Memorials to the Killduff United Methodist Church may be left at the funeral home.

Joyce, the daughter of Lewis F. and Mabel Ruth (Bohannon) Reynolds, was born Aug. 20, 1934, in Brewton, AL. She grew up in Alabama and graduated from Enterprise High School in 1952.  Joyce was united in marriage to Alfred Junior Christensen on June 8, 1952, in Alabama. Shortly after, they made their home in Iowa and farmed near Attica before moving to rural Sully in 1954. Joyce was a homemaker and farmer’s wife. She was an active member of Killduff United Methodist Church and was involved with various Bible studies.  Joyce and Junior enjoyed traveling and vacationing and had wintered in Arizona for 22 years. In 2018, Joyce moved to Newton and resided at Newton Village.

Those left to survive Joyce are her children: Gary (Lynnette) Christensen of Sully, Greg (Denise) Christensen of Chandler, AZ, Melissa (Dan) Johnson of Mountain Home, AR, and Mary Ann (Dale) Hawkins of Dinwiddie, VA; grandchildren, Rachel (Travis) Deur, Andrea (Dave) Van Steenis, Jamis (Sarah) Christensen, Skyler Christensen, Kaycie Christensen, Brandon Johnson, Lucas Johnson, and Taylor (Chris) Ellis; 10 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Christina Shilling of Knoxville; brother-in-law, Marinus (Laverne) Christensen of Loveland, CO; and her many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Junior in 2015; and a grandson, T.J. Christensen.
