JoAnn Yarrington, 85, of La Porte City, died Sunday, May 22, 2016, at La Porte City Specialty Care.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, May 26, at Heartland Community Church, 705 Bishop Avenue in La Porte City, with burial in Westview Cemetery. Public visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m. Wednesday, May 25, and an hour prior to the services on Thursday at Heartland Community Church. JoAnn was born Sept. 2, 1930, on the family farm in rural La Porte City, the daughter of Ivan and Vera Mosley Buck. JoAnn graduated from La Porte City High School with the Class of 1948. She was united in marriage with Marvin L. Yarrington on Mar. 15, 195, at the EUB Church in La Porte City.
JoAnn worked as a secretary for the La Porte City School District for more than 30 years, retiring in 1996. She was a member of Heartland Community Church. Her family was most important to JoAnn. She loved to cook and enjoyed baking goodies, canning fresh garden produce, and crafting with ceramics.
Survivors include her husband, Marvin; two daughters, Rebecca (Tim) Cox and Teresa Yarrington, all of La Porte City; a son, Gordon (Nancy) Yarrington of Sully; four grandchildren; 11 great-grand-children; and three great-great- grandchildren; two sisters, Lois (Wendell) Boone of Wisconsin and Marlys Buck of La Porte City; and two brothers, Russell (Carol) Buck of Florida and Walter (Carol) Buck of La Porte City.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
