Helen "Joane" Cline was born to Enoch and Helen Rexroat on Mar. 21, 1951, the youngest sister to Harold, Ronald, Jim, and Joyce.
Joane grew up in Newton and spent many summers at her grandparents’ resort in Minnesota. Joane graduated from the Newton High School with the Class of 1969 and then started her first job at Party Time Pizza.
Joane was united in marriage to David Arthur Cline on Mar. 4, 1972, at her parents' home in Newton. Joane quickly became a beloved daughter to Dave's parents, Harley and Gladys.
Joane and Dave briefly lived in Kansas before returning to Iowa and settling at their home in rural Sully. Joane's niece Kim and nephew Jim were close and loved to spend time with Uncle Dave and Aunt Jo. Joane was a hard worker, and during her long career at Pella Corp, she often treated her co-workers to her delicious baked goods. During this time, she met Holly, and they formed a special mother/daughter bond. She was a bonus grandma to Adriana and Amber Shinn, spending many Saturday nights watching WWE and horror movies. The weekend ended with Joane's homemade waffles and hot chocolate pudding. There were also many trips to Iowa State Fair, where the girls would come home with stories of the shenanigans that took place.
Joane's love of shopping often found her watching QVC and scoring great deals. She also loved getting manicures and trying out new hairstyles. She spent time with her beloved pets, her favorite being the feisty Amos.
Joane knew no strangers and could strike up a conversation with anyone. She looked forward to her frequent lengthy calls to Holly and her special friend Connie. Joane was witty and was always up for a hearty laugh.
Joane is survived by her husband Dave; daughter Holly (Randy) Ives of Knoxville; granddaughter Adriana (Dante) Dali and their children of Springfield, MO; brother Jim Rexroat of Hawaii; niece Kim Conley of Des Moines; nephew Jim Conley of Newton; and many other family and friends.
Joane died Friday, Feb. 14, 2025, at MercyOne Newton Medical Center. She was 73 years old.
She was preceded in death by her parents; Dave's parents; a granddaughter Amber; her brothers Harold and Ronald; and her sister, Joyce.
A private burial will be held at a later date.
