Jim Strovers, 76

James Henry “Jim” Strovers, 76, of rural Newton died Sunday, Nov. 1, 2015, at his home. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 6, at the Wallace Family Funeral Home, Newton. The family will greet friends from 10 a.m. until the time of service on Friday. Memorials to Reasnor Fire Department or Our Silent City Cemetery in Kellogg may be left at the funeral home.

Jim, the son of Lester R. and Alice (Allen) Strovers, was born Jan. 10, 1939, in Grinnell. He graduated from Newton High School in 1958. Feb. 9, 1963, he was united in marriage with Virginia Banks at the Little Brown Church in Nashua.

Jim was a farmer and had farmed for 51 years in the Kellogg and Newton areas. He also worked for Manatt’s in Newton for 20 years.

Those left to honor Jim’s memory are his wife, Virginia of rural Newton; siblings, Mary Lou Fairleigh of Torrance, CA, Norma Jean Clubb of Mt. Pleasant, Betty Steenhoek of Kellogg, Peggie Farver of Monroe, Ken Strovers of Hawaii, Janice Strovers of Kellogg, Beverly Strovers of Oroville, CA, Wayne (Ilona) Strovers of Chariton, Denny Strovers of Oroville, and David (Karen) Strovers of Kellogg; and his sister-in-law, Doris Strovers. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Lester Strovers, Jr. and Vernon Strovers; sister, Dorothy Strovers; his brothers-in-law, Richard Fairleigh, Bill Steenhoek, and Lyle Farver; and sister-in-law, Dottie Strovers.
