Janice Strovers, 81

Janice Arlene Strovers, 81, of Newton, died Wednesday, May 3, 2023, at MercyOne Newton Medical Center. A graveside service was held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, May 9, at Our Silent City Cemetery in Kellogg. Memorials to Jasper County Conservation or Kellogg Cemetery Association can be left at the Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory in Newton.

Janice, the daughter of Lester R. and Alice (Allen) Strovers, was born Apr. 14, 1942, in Grinnell. She graduated from Newton High School in 1960. She worked at DeLong Sportswear in Grinnell and then for the Maytag Company in Newton until retirement. Janice loved being outdoors, tending to her sheep and chickens or working in her garden. She was a member of the Kellogg Historical Society and Museum.

Those left to honor Janice’s memory include her siblings: Mary Lou Fairleigh of Torrance, CA, Norma Jean Clubb of Mt. Pleasant, Betty Steenhoek of Newton, Peggy Farver of Chariton, Ken Strovers of Cedar Rapids, Bev Strovers of Orville, CA, Wayne (Ilona) Strovers of Chariton, Denny Strovers of Van Buren, AR, and Dave (Karen) Strovers of Kellogg; sisters-in-law, Doris Strovers of Arkansas and Virginia Strovers of Newton; special nieces, Deb Steenhoek and Sandy Nikkel; and many other nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, and great-great-nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers Lester Jr., Vernon, and Jim; sister Dorothy; brothers-in-law Richard Fairleigh, Bill Steenhoek, and Lyle Farver; and sister-in-law Dottie Strovers.
