Janice Savage Bailey, 86

Janice Savage Bailey, 86, was born Jan. 30, 1936, in Lynnville. She died in Fredericksburg, VA, on Aug. 31, 2022. Funeral service will be at 3 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 10, at Lynnville Friends Church. Interment will be in Lynnville Friends Cemetery. Memorials have been designated for Lynnville Friends Church and Lynnville Friends Cemetery.

Janice graduated from North High School in Des Moines in 1954 and Drake University in 1958 with a degree in elementary education. She thoroughly enjoyed her life as the wife of an Air Force Officer, involving herself in the Officers’ Wives Club on the various bases where they lived, serving as both Newspaper Editor and President. The Air Force took her to multiple states and Canada, but by far her favorite time of life was the three years at Hahn AB, Germany. She enjoyed her family, visiting relatives, travelling, laughing with friends, and drinking coffee. After retirement from the Air Force, she taught kindergarten and was very involved in the American Business Women’s Association in Tucson, AZ.

She is survived by four children: John (Josie) Bailey of Merritt Island, FL; Kent (Michelle) Bailey of Hershey, PA; Brenda (Clay) Hicks of Spotsylvania, VA; and Richard (Jan) Bailey of Scottsdale, AZ; and 11 grandchildren: Colleen, Abby, Nate, Cameron, Gabe, Brent, Lindsey, Allison, Colin, Justin, and Josh.

Janice was preceded in death by: her husband Col. (Ret.) James E. Bailey of Des Moines and their first daughter Carolyn who died in infancy in Denver, CO; her parents Harry L. and Mabel L. Savage of Lynnville; and her sister Louise Rudkin and brother-in-law Jack Rudkin, both of Webster City.
