Funeral services for Hermina Rolffs, 89, of Sully, were held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, Aug. 20, 2020, at Sully Christian Re-formed Church.

Hermina Ann (Arkema) Rolffs was born Sept. 2, 1930, near Sully. She was the eighth of 12 children born to Oney and Katie (Bruxvoort) Arkema. She and Henry Louis Rolffs met at a roller skating party in Grinnell. On Dec. 13, 1949, they were united in marriage at the home of Hermina’s parents south of Sully. To this union, six children were born: Randall Dean, Merlan Jay, Dale Louis, Brent H., Scott Edwin, and Rose Ann. Following their marriage, Henry and Hermina farmed near Lynnville and later near Taintor. Hermina loved raising her family on the farm as she cooked and cared for them. In 1989, Henry and Hermina moved to 706 1st Street in Sully after many years of farming. As their family grew, they enjoyed spending time with their grandchildren and great-grandchildren. After 56 years of marriage, Henry passed away suddenly on Nov. 16, 2006.

Hermina faced this new challenge spending time with her family and friends. She enjoyed having coffee, and playing cards and games with them. Hermina looked forward to spending Friday nights with her friends. She was an avid fan of her grandchildren’s sports teams and attended many of their events and games. She enjoyed many trips and also enjoyed visiting her family.

Hermina faced her diagnosis with courage and dignity. She passed away at her home surrounded by her family on Aug. 16, 2020, at the age of 89. She is survived by her six children: Randy (Aleda) Rolffs of Pella, Merlan (Nancy) Rolffs of Pella, Dale (Carolyn) Rolffs of Lynnville, Brent (Brenda) Rolffs of Sully, Scott (Valerie) Rolffs of Lynnville, and Rose Kiehl of Sully; 18 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and her siblings and their spouses: June Rozendaal, Alan Arkema, Grace and Harris Van Kooten, Lewis and Jean Arkema, and Edwin and Leona Arkema. Of Henry’s original family she leaves: Janet and Guy Jansen, John and Shirley Rolffs, Dorothy and Marion Vos, Mildred (Louis) Lanser, and Janice (Marvin) Rolffs.

She was preceded in death by her husband Henry Louis Rolffs, daughter-in-law Sue Rolffs, grandson Matthew Rolffs, granddaughter Laura Rolffs, great-granddaughters Amarie Rolffs and Evelyn Voss, and her siblings and spouses: John (Iva) Arkema, Dormand (Beulah) Arkema, Marjorie (Freeman) Van Gorp, Nelson (Dorothy) Arkema, Bernard (Cornelia) Arkema, Betty (Earl) Dykema, and William Rozendaal.
