Herman Frey, 86

Herman Frey, 86, of Parkersburg went to be with the Lord on Sunday, Jan. 11, 2015, at the Clarksville Skilled Nursing and Rehabil-itation Center. Funeral services were Jan. 14 at the Reformed Church of Stout with burial in the Oak Hill Cemetery in Parkersburg. Memorials may be directed to the Reformed Church of Stout. Herman Leonard Frey was born the son of Herman Sr. and Flossie (Arends) Frey on Jan. 4. 1929, in rural Parkersburg. He graduated from New Hartford High School in 1947. Herman was drafted into the United States Army during the Korean War on Mar. 5, 1951, and served until September 1952. He served as a military policeman.

On Feb. 27, 1953, Herman was united in marriage with Eunice Muller at the Bethel Reformed Church in rural Aplington. Herman was employed by the Benson Creamery for about a year. He then began crop farming and raising livestock until he retired and moved to Parkersburg in 2002.

Herman was an active member of the Reformed Church of Stout, serving as deacon and elder, and he had also taught catechism.

Herman took pride in his work on the farm. Some of his favorite pastimes were hunting, fishing, playing cards, and gardening. Herman had a green thumb and especially enjoyed time in his strawberry patch. Spending time with family was very important to him.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Siebe Frey; and one sister, Luella Van Heiden.

Herman is survived by his wife of 61 years, Eunice; one daughter, Deborah (Duane) Alberts of Parkersburg; three sons, Douglas (Kristin) Frey of Victoria, MN, Daniel (Kay) Frey of Parkersburg, and Darrin (Jill) Frey of Polk City; eight grandchildren, Scott (Stacey) Alberts and Trent (Kari) Alberts, Courtney and Tiffany Frey; Taylor and Michael Frey and Parker and Avery Frey; five great-grandchildren, Braden and Colton Alberts and Caitlin, Elise, and Trace Alberts; two sisters, Bertha Sents of Wellsburg and Florence Ruth of Grundy Center.
