Harriet Van Zante, 100

Harriet Van Zante, 100, of Pella passed away  July 21, 2022. Funeral service was held Monday, July 25, at 10 a.m. at Sully Christian Reformed Church. Interment was in Sully Cemetery. Memorials have been designated for Sully Christian School.

Harriet was born Mar. 7, 1922, to Jacob and Jeanette (Boertje) De Vries, south of Prairie City. She attended Pella Christian Grade School through the eighth grade.

Dec. 9, 1943, she was united in marriage to Wilbur Roy Van Zante at her parents’ home. To this union, four children were born: Arlyn, James, Merl, and Lloyd.

Harriet was a member of Sully Christian Reformed Church where she attended Ruth Circle and Golden Hour.

She enjoyed visiting family and friends, knitting, crocheting, tatting, quilting, going to church, and writing in her diary. While in the nursing home, she loved working on jigsaw puzzles with her sister Anna Mae. She loved reading her Bible and her walk with the Lord.

She was preceded in death by her husband Wilbur Van Zante, her son Lloyd, her parents, her parents-in-law Arie and Martha Van Zante, her brothers James and Connie De Vries, Bernie and Dody De Vries, Maynard and Dot De Vries, and Albert Rowe, and her brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Anna Paulena and Lester Van Wyk, Bernard Van Zante, Harold Van Wyk, Andrew in infancy, and Delmon and Lucille Van Zante.

Her surviving family includes Arlyn (Barbara) Van Zante of Grinnell, James (Marlis) Van Zante of Lynnville, Merl (Candy) Van Zante of Reasnor; several grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Harriet is also survived by her sisters Anna Mae Rouw of Pella and Carolyn and Harold Vos of Pella, her brother Ray and Carol De Vries of Ellisville, MO, and her sisters-in-law Sarah Jonella “Joey” Van Wyk of Sully and Lois Van Zante of Oskaloosa.
