Glen L. Jones, 77

Glen L. Jones, 77, of Newton, died Sunday, Jan. 1, 2017, at his home. A memorial service was held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 6, at Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory in Newton. Memorials to Mercy Hospice in Glen’s name may be left at the funeral home.

Glen, the son of Ralph and Pearl (Ritz) Jones, was born May 9, 1939, in Davis County. He graduated from Moulton High School. Glen later moved to Newton to begin his 30- year career at the Maytag Company, retiring in 1999.

Glen was united in marriage with Twila J. Blumer on Apr. 6, 1985, in Blakesburg. They made their home in Newton. Glen was a member of the Emerson Hough Chapter of the Izaak Walton League and Community Heights Alliance Church. He enjoyed fishing, camping, crocheting, and woodworking. Glen also liked to paint and took classes with his daughter Theresa.

For over 20 years, Glen also worked on Ford tractors. He liked to say he was the “biggest Ford tractor dealer in Jasper County.”

Glen is survived by his wife, Twila Jones of Newton; daughter, Theresa Lemons (Russ Vander Weerdt) of Lynnville; son, Timothy (Dee) Jones of Newton; step-children, Jeffrey (Barb) Brittain of Blakesburg, Julie (Jim) Preston of Carlisle, and Jolynda Huff (Greg Turner) of Oskaloosa; brother Edward (Karin) Jones of Weslaco, TX; sister, Fern (Gerald) Mitchell of Blakesburg; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and his many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, a sister, and several nieces and nephews.
