Gary W. Williams, 70

A celebration of life of Gary W. Williams, 70, of Diamond Bar, CA, will be Saturday, June 30, 2017, at 11 a.m. at Sully First Reformed Church.

Gary passed away peacefully at their home in Diamond Bar on July 17, 2016, following a nine-month battle with cancer.

Gary Wayne Williams, son of Sam and Elsie McCumber Williams, was born Aug. 23, 1945, on a farm near Reasnor. He attended country school and graduated from Monroe High School in 1963. Gary served in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War and earned a bachelor business administration degree from the University of Iowa in 1972.

June 23, 1972, Gary was united in marriage with Marcia Ann Dunsbergen at Sully First Reformed Church. They were blessed with three children: Carrie Joy, Ryan Michael, and Brandon Lee. Following their marriage, they lived in Ames, Des Moines, Newton, and Indianola. In January 1987, the family moved to Diamond Bar, CA.

Those who will cherish his memory are his wife, Marcia; their three children, their spouses, and five grandsons: Carrie Williams of Lake Forest, CA, Ryan and Kristen Williams of Garden Grove, CA, Connor, Jonah, and Elias, and Brandon and Claire Williams of Winder, GA, Gage, and Beau.

Gary is also survived by his sister, Betty Hartwell; his stepsister, Carole (Rick) Anderson; and his brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Gene Scarbrough, Marilyn and Melvin Jansen, and Ron and Julie Dunsbergen.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his stepfather, Jack Willis; his sister, Jean Scarbrough; his brother, Sam Williams; and his brother-in-law, Bob Hartwell.

At the time of his death last year, Gary was self-employed as an accountant. He loved building personal relationships with his clients as he helped them with their accounting needs. Gary attended and was active in the Evangelical Free Church of Diamond Bar. He will be remembered for his Christian faith, his hunger to study God’s Word, and his love for teaching adult bible studies. Gary enjoyed reading, singing, and playing his ukulele. Gary dearly loved to make people laugh (or groan) at his jokes and puns.

Gary will always be remembered by his family and friends for the unconditional love he had for his wife, his children, his daughters-in-law, and his grandchildren; his kindness and compassion; his smiles and hugs; and his sense of humor.
