Gary Van Wyk, 86, of Sully passed away Jan. 12, 2026. Visitation will be 4-6 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 15, at Sully Christian Reformed Church, where the funeral will be at 10:30 a.m., Friday, Jan. 16. Memorials may be given to Sully Christian School.
Gary Lee Van Wyk was born Aug. 31, 1939, the fourth child of Henry G. and Clara H. (Ver Steegt) Van Wyk, near Lynnville.
Gary made profession of faith at Sully First Reformed Church. He attended four country schools: Rider, Junction, Iron Clad, and Chester. In 1962, he enlisted in the National Guard.
Dec. 14, 1965, he was united in marriage to Alberdina Van Zee at Sully Christian Reformed Church. To this union, one son was born, Scott Edwin.
Gary farmed and worked several jobs: De Jong Hardware, Sully Co-op, Jasper County ASC Office, and Nick’s Farm Service. He also served as a Lynn Grove Township Trustee and was on the board of Sully Rural Fire Department. He was a member of Sully Christian Reformed Church where he served as Cadet counselor and two terms as a deacon. When Gary quit farming in 1994, he started working for Clements & Associates. Gary especially enjoyed attending his grandkids’ activities.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife Alberdina; their son Scott (Jennifer) Van Wyk; grandchildren Wade and Anya; sisters-in-law Jo Vos, Lenora Van Norden, Margaret Ann Coop, and Vi Van Wyk; brothers-in-law Clarence (Judy) Van Zee and Lawrence (Sandy) Van Zee; and many nieces and nephews.
Gary was preceded in death by his parents; parents-in-law Kryn and Walterina Van Zee; brothers Gilbert (Marlene) Van Wyk and Orville Van Wyk; sister Mildred Bogaards; brother-in-law Newton Coop; and his siblings-in-law Gertrude (Abe) De Kock, Murray Vos, and Roger Van Norden.
