Floyd Snook, 83

Floyd Snook, 83, of Searsboro passed away Monday evening, Nov. 23, 2015, at Grinnell Regional Medical Center. Funeral services were Friday, Nov. 27, at the Holland-Coble Funeral Home in Montezuma. Burial was in the West Liberty Cemetery near Searsboro. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Searsboro Fire Department or Searsboro Community Church.

Floyd Lee Snook, the son of Lester and Eva (Tish) Snook, was born Mar. 28, 1932, northeast of Montezuma. He went to country school and attended Montezuma. On Aug. 18, 1951, Floyd was united in marriage to Joan Watson in rural Searsboro. To this union, seven children were born. Floyd worked at Pioneer Gas Station in Grinnell, DeLongs Jacket Factory in Grinnell, and drove truck for Miracle Playground Equipment before working at Donaldson's in Grinnell. Floyd worked at Donaldson's during the day and hobby farmed at night. He worked 32 years at Donaldson's before retiring. Floyd enjoyed hunting, fishing, bowling, playing cards, traveling, and jig saw puzzles. He also enjoyed watching old western movies; especially anything with John Wayne. Floyd was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He absolutely adored his family and spending time with his grandchildren and great-grand-children. He served many years as a Searsboro City Councilman and was a 53-plus years member of the Searsboro Fire Department, serving as fire chief for many of those years. Floyd was also a member of the Searsboro Community Church where he was serving as deacon.

Floyd's memory will be cherished by his wife of 64 years, Joan of Searsboro; seven children: David Snook of Panama City, FL, Bruce Snook of Calloway, FL, Gary (Vanessa) Snook of Surprise, AZ, Carol (Scott) Westercamp of Ankeny; Richard (Sheryl) Snook of Camp Point, IL, Mark Snook of Des Moines, and Kevin (Teresa) Snook of Geneseo, IL; 14 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; his siblings, Willis Snook of Grinnell, Gladys Arthur of Pella, Francis Schillenger of Orion, IL, Betty Van Dee of Deep River, Donald Snook of Grinnell, Eldon (Reca) Snook of Grinnell, Keith (Pat) Snook of Parachute, CO, and Roy (Kathy) Snook of Parachute, CO; and many other relatives and friends.

Floyd was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Lucille Tish; a brother, Edward Snook; two sisters-in-law, Phyllis Snook and Eleanor "Ellie" Snook; and three brothers-in-law, Keith Arthur, Marion Van Dee, and Walt Tish.
