Ethel Mumm, 93

Ethel Wilhelmina Mumm, 93, of Lynnville, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, Dec. 9, 2023, at MercyOne Newton Medical Center. Services are pending at this time. Memorials to St. Andrew’s Lutheran Church or Jasper County Meals on Wheels may be left at Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory in Newton.

Ethel, the daughter of Christian and Lydia (Huedepohl) Moennich, was born Jan. 18, 1930, in Homestead. She grew up with her family in that area and graduated as valedictorian of her high school class.  Ethel was united in marriage with Melvin Mumm on Mar. 23, 1949, in Conroy. They were blessed with seven children: Donna, Allan, Joe, Dan, Duane, Brian, and Barry.

Ethel was an active member of St. Andrew’s Lutheran Church, where she faithfully attended church and Sunday school. Her devotions continued daily even after she was unable to attend. Her love for the Lord showed continually in her gentle spirit, and even though dementia crept into her life, she remained a loving, sweet, and caring person. Ethel loved her home, where she lived until days before her passing. She enjoyed painting, crocheting, knitting, a good meal or picnic, and visiting with people on the phone or who stopped by.

Ethel is survived by her children: Donna (Rolland) Schnell, Allan (Patty) Mumm, Dan (Amy) Mumm, Duane (Becky) Mumm, Brian (Karen) Mumm, and Barry Mumm; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and a sister Elaine Hulseberg.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son Joe (Mary Jane) Mumm; daughter-in-law Kathy Mumm; grandchild Scott Mumm; great-granddaughter Megan Hoogeveen; brother Arnold Moennich; and sisters Medora Hopp, Laverne Adams, and Florence Martinson.
