Ernestine Dieleman, 97

Ernestine W. (Harthoorn) Dieleman, 97, formerly of Sully, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 2, 2020, at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City. Graveside services were held Monday, Dec. 7, at 2 p.m. at Sully Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be given for the Sully Christian School or mission fund of Sully Christian Reformed Church.

Ernestine Wilhemina Dieleman was born Jan. 2, 1923, to Kors and Jennie (Nikkel) Harthoorn near Lynnville. Ernie attended Black Oak School near Lynnville through the eighth grade and lived in the Kellogg-Sully-Newton area her entire life.

On Feb. 25, 1943, she was united in marriage to Harry Dieleman. Together they made their home on the farm and were blessed with four children: Wayne, Gerald, Ruth, and Carla.

Ernie was a lifelong homemaker. She spent hours working in her vegetable garden, canning, and took great joy in her flowers. She enjoyed playing games and visiting with her grandchildren and friends. She was a faithful member of Sully Christian Reformed Church.

Those left to cherish her memory are her three children and their spouses: Wayne (Carol) Dieleman of Maquoketa, Ruth (Dale) Van Maanen of Lynnville, Carla (Gene) Schaefer of Williamsburg; two daughters-in-law: Iris (Dieleman) and Roger Plummer; Velma (Dieleman) and Harold Rozendaal, both of Sully; 11 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. She is also survived by one sister-in-law, Bernice Dieleman.

She was preceded in death by her husband Harry, her son Gerald, her parents, her siblings Francis, Cornelia, Case, Cora, Jennie, Dorothy, and a  brother in infancy.
